This Women’s Day – Explore Your Mental Health Needs

Women are estimated to be twice as likely as men to experience depression. Various factors like hormonal fluctuations, societal pressures, and genetic predispositions potentially contribute to these differences.

Societal expectations and gender roles can play a role in how men and women experience and express mental health issues. Women are often exposed to higher levels of stress and trauma, including sexual violence, which can increase the risk of mental health problems.

This Women’s day lets examine the need and other aspects of mental health counselling among them.

What is the Women’s Day Theme 2025?

International Women’s Day 2025 is celebrated on March 8 under this year’s theme, “For ALL women and girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment.”  The emphasis is on the need to uplift women in all spheres of life. The day celebrates progress and raises awareness of ongoing challenges. It is also a day to acknowledge and drive action toward a more inclusive world.

Advocating for Women’s Mental Health Needs

Remember, staying silent and choosing to ignore your mental health needs are likely to cause more problems than yielding any valuable results. Empowered women are more likely to seek mental health counselling as they have greater control over different aspects of life.

Here are 5 Tips for Managing Mental Health

1. Break the silence

It is completely alright to feel anxious and worried over big or small things. But neglecting such emotions and failing to cater to these can only cause more stress and anxiety. It is essential to open up about your feelings with someone you trust.

Remember talking to a close family member or friend who understands you without judgement can help you address and overcome many problems. Unfortunately, many people lack a close associate with whom they can open up their true self, without the fear of judgement.

At Talk n Share, we provide mental health counselling sessions with an experienced psychologist to help you out.

2. Gain knowledge about mental health issues

The spectrum of mental health issues is indeed wide. Mental illness can impact a person’s thinking, perceptions, mood, or behavior. It can make it hard to cope with work, relationships, and other demands.

Many people suffer from anxiety disorders, depression, FOMO (fear of missing out), bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Following are some common symptoms of mental health issues:

  • Feeling tearful, irritable, or withdrawn
  • Experiencing fatigue or a loss of interest in activities
  • Low self-esteem or feeling worthless
  • Suicidal thoughts or attempting self-harm
  • Poor concentration or memory problems
  • Racing thoughts or feeling anxious

3. Understand what triggers you

Certain words, people, or actions can lead to panic attacks or cause anxiety among individuals. As people, it is important to recognize the triggering factors that set off an emotional response in our bodies.

Studies indicate that women may be better at recognizing faces, potentially due to their greater focus on facial features like eyes. Women are more emotionally aware and empathetic, which could lead to better observation of emotional cues in others.

4. Seek support

The stigma surrounding mental health and the fear of judgment often discourage people from opening up about their problems. Other factors like perceived cost, lack of trust, and the belief that they can handle problems alone or that therapy won’t be effective also lead to people avoiding professional help.

It is important to seek support when you are depressed for more than 2 weeks or facing any other emotional issues. Mental health counselling from a certified therapist can help to get rid of such issues and live a happy life.

Psychotherapy can help individuals understand their feelings, moods, thoughts, and behaviors. The right therapies help to reduce symptoms of mental health problems and identify the psychological root causes of stress or crisis. This further encourages positive changes in the brain and body, ultimately improving overall well-being.  Overall, it helps to cultivate positivity and a more optimistic outlook on life.

5. Celebrate the wins

Forgetting to celebrate your wins in the humdrums of life amidst mental health issues can be common. It’s essential to acknowledge and celebrate your small and big wins in life as it can provide you with the much needed boost in morale.

Remember the celebrations do not need to be grand. Talking to your friends or people about your achievements, or simply taking the time out to treat yourself can also help you remember your achievements and enhance self-esteem.

Conclusion

International Women’s Day recognizes the social, economic, and various other achievements of women while advocating for gender equality. Do not neglect celebration of progress and try to raise awareness of ongoing challenges that women face in their day-to-day life.

It is our combined responsibility to drive action toward a more inclusive world that is also free of mental health issues subjecting to women.
