This year’s world mental health day theme was “mental health at work”. Indeed the place or the space where we spend more than 8 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week, and almost life itself. Our workplace should be welcoming and offer a healthy state for our mind, body, and soul.
Truth is, this is far beyond reality and looking at the industry dynamics for various verticals, even further from achieving this dream. The importance of mental health is seemingly becoming more obvious in our day to day life.
And sadly, the workplace is something we dread the most.
Tell me, what is your favorite day of the week(in the comments section)?
Holiday or Sunday!
Various business industries especially IT, healthcare, small and big MNCs, are recognising the need of providing a fulfilling life to their employees. Phrases like work-life-balance have become a hot piece of cake in the modern lifestyle.
The world mental health day is celebrated on october 10th and thankfully we are witnessing more companies adopting its celebration.
This blog is all about a step towards greater awareness of mental health importance.
Here are some reasons that highlight the importance of mental health
- A pressing global issue
One in eight people worldwide lives with a mental health condition. Alas, more children, teens, and young adults are struggling with mental illness.
Did you know?
As of 2015, as per worldwide calculations and statistics, more than 322.48 million people worldwide suffer from certain forms of depressive disorder. This does not end here. Post two years in 2017, over 14 percent of the total population in India suffer from variations of mental disorders.
There are no surprises yet; a major chunk of this share includes older adult females in India.
This highlights the urgent need for us as a society to be more tender and thoughtful in our thoughts and actions towards anyone and everyone.

- Importance of mental health at workplaces
Safe and healthy workplaces can protect mental health, but unhealthy conditions can pose significant risks. Often, we feel we are not welcome to share our thoughts and ideas or appreciated enough for the dedication and hard work we chip in.
Companies need to safeguard the intellectual harmony of the employees. Thankfully, fun Fridays and flexible working hours have been introduced, and appropriate actions and strategies are being adopted in different business industries to ensure a healthy and happy workplace.
- Mental peace is connected to life & society
Talking about the best mental health resources can help people cope with life’s ups and downs. Social and emotional skills, positive social interactions, quality education, and safe neighborhoods can strengthen resilience against several mental disorders like anxiety, depression, etc. Mental health counselling can also help you master skills to stay calm and peaceful.
- Good mental health is connected to sleep
Getting enough sleep is important for maintaining mental health. Employers or business owners can play a crucial role in supporting employees with mental health conditions. Reasonable accommodations like regular supportive meetings, multiple scheduled breaks, and others can help employees manage their issues or conditions.
